I was thinking how I can quickly improve my skin health and also get more energy. A few weeks ago I noticed a huge difference in my skin appearance. When I was pregnant, my skin was almost perfect. Now I can see pimples on my nose and forehead and couple wrinkles around my eyes. I need them to disappear!

Our little one will be three months old in a few days, so I’m slowly getting fit again after the birth. Luckily, Roman often works from home, so when our baby girl is sleeping, I can go for a quick surf or run. Woohoo! I also realized that now when I’m breastfeeding, I tend to crave more sweets than before. I usually try to make healthy choices, but now my body often asks for a quick energy boost. So I decided to get back on track and get proper nourishment for my body and skin. And the easiest way how to get it is to blend everything I need together! So smoothie it is!

I’ve been drinking this raspberry & banana smoothie for couple days (it’s my mid-morning snack) and already noticed the difference. My skin looks much better. I guess it’s true that the best way how we can take care of our skin is from inside out! It’s amazing how a simple thing like healthy balanced diet can do miracles!

 My favorite smoothie combination:

Spinach leaves – help to prevent acne and promote cells turnover.

Avocado – protects our skin from environmental damage that leads to fine lines, wrinkles, and signs of aging.

Banana – is an excellent source of quick energy and helps to lower blood pressure.

Frozen raspberries – help to stimulate collagen synthesis which keeps skin smooth and taught.

Ginger – helps to fight wrinkles, is a great immune booster, infection fighter and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Lemon juice – is packed with antioxidants and improves skin health.

A drizzle of honey – is optional, for a sweet tooth.

  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 ripe banana
  • handful of frozen raspberries
  • handful of spinach leaves
  • 1/2 tbsp fresh ginger (1 small knob, peeled)
  • lemon juice (1/2 small lemon)
  • drizzle of honey


  1. Blend all ingredients together until smooth. Enjoy :).

Are you wondering how you can win your battle with pimples? Is there a natural cure for acne? Luckily there may be a way… through healthy diet!

Fighting acne can be very exhausting. I still remember how terrified I felt when I woke up every morning before I checked my poor face in the mirror. Then I spent a couple of minutes trying to cover it with heavy makeup. The idea that other people could see my real face covered with huge red pimples was unbearable. I felt embarrassed, suffered from low self-esteem and sometimes, I preferred to stay at home instead of going out with my friends.

I have tried tons of acne treatment products, but nothing worked. I felt desperate.

All I wanted was to get rid of these red pimples and have pretty, healthy skin.

If you also suffer from acne, you are not alone. Acne, one of the most common dermatological conditions, is affecting millions of young adults worldwide.

It’s a complex hormonal problem, and other factors can bring it on or make it worse such as genetics and emotional problems. It also seems that making small diet changes can help you to get rid of or at least reduce pimples on your face.

Let’s have a look at what food groups you should avoid when fighting acne:

Foods high in refined sugars and fast food

Like white bread, cookies, chocolate, sweetened beverages, chips or white potatoes raise your blood sugar level quickly and trigger your body to make a burst of the hormone insulin, which helps your cells absorb sugar. High insulin levels circulating in your body can activate production of sebum. Sebum, the oil produced by the sebaceous glands in your skin, is responsible for clogging skin pores. When pores are blocked, they can easily be inflamed – swell up and go red. And voila, the pimple is here.

Dairy products

Also, spike your blood sugar level. They can contain added hormones and growth factors that may worsen your acne. Do you love milk and can’t imagine your life without it? Luckily, there are other alternatives like soy, unsweetened organic almond or coconut milk. However, remember, if you cut out dairy from your diet, you must get calcium from other sources. Here are a few calcium-rich foods Examples: beans, sardines, almonds, dark leafy vegetables (kale, spinach, bok choy, collards), oranges, chia seeds, quinoa, and seaweed.

Many people claim that going vegan helped them to get rid of acne. Cutting out dairy, fast foods, and sweets and a following healthy, balanced diet is one of the main keys to acne treatment. You don’t have to go extremes and give up meat products too.

Caffeine and alcohol

If you are a coffee lover, I have bad news for you. Unfortunately, coffee and alcoholic drinks can mess with your blood sugar levels too. Giving up of your favorite cup of coffee or Friday night drink may be hard, but it’s worth it; believe me.

I bet you are thinking right now: “Ok Madeleine, but what I should eat instead?”

When battling acne, a healthy, balanced diet is the key. Eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables, swap white bread, rice or pasta for whole grain options and enjoy lean protein with every food. Don’t forget to have a portion of omega 3 fatty acids daily. They prevent inflammation and are found in fish like salmon or tuna, nuts, chia seeds or avocado.

Make these simple diet changes and keep it at least for 4 weeks long. After you notice a visible change in your skin condition, start slowly adding certain foods back in your diet to know how they work for you and your skin. If you break out one or two days later after a party or enjoying a box of chocolate, you will know what your triggers are – what food is best for you and what is better to avoid. I believe that everybody is different and knowing your acne triggers is a powerful weapon in your battle with pimples.

Be patient. Sometimes, it may take up to 12 weeks of diet change to see if a certain food is contributing to your acne. Don’t give up and eat your way in a healthy, flawless and glowing skin.
